Colts Neck, NJ Mansion – NJ Real Estate Photographer
We photograph very large homes rather frequently, especially this time of year, so we typically don’t bat an eye when we get a call for a “large home.” It’s not a daily occurrence, but we’re certainly not daunted by the prospect of photographing a home set to list for a few million or sitting at 6,000+ sf or so. However, recently, I received a call from Kristen Cook, the VP of The Abrams Team from Keller Williams Realty about photographing a “large residence.” Kristen & her team are luxury real estate consultants for celebrities, professional athletes, and business executives across the nation. Her job is to match their roster of A-list clients with the perfect properties. You may also know Kristen as one of the stars of HGTV’s Scoring the Deal. I had the pleasure of working with her & getting to know her as just a really cool person who was a lot of fun.
When we first spoke, she said that she needed photos for her new listing in Colts Neck, NJ. She mentioned that the property was 25,000 sf, and my natural response was, “you mean the land?” Nope. She meant the house. The home was enormous, including a barn, half of a basketball court, and even a full-sized regulation ice rink. Wow! This was going to be a cool session! For the record, I’m pretty sure it’s either the only private residence in North America with a full-sized ice rink, or one of two. Either way, let’s not split hairs here… that’s awesome!
We set a date for the session & allocated some serious time to get the shots they were going to need to market the property right. They were even looking to have two twilight photos taken of the estate. Colts Neck is about an hour and a half from where I live, so I had a drive ahead of me. On top of this, the weather wasn’t cooperating at all. It had either been raining or seriously on the brink of raining all week. Despite any of this, when I showed up, it was game on! The home was stunning, and the rain held out for the majority of the time I was there. I was there for quite some time, taking shots of the sprawling estate… the spectacular entrance area, the beautiful rose garden, the awesome pool, the giant home theater, the ice rink… The list pretty much went on and on, and I’m pretty sure the pool house was the size of a normal home.
The only issue that came up was in the last stretch… go figure. After all of the principle photography of the residence was complete, it was time to run out, grab a quick bite to eat, and head back to set up for some twilight shots. Since we’re talking about my luck here, of course it decided to start pouring. Yup, the heavens opened up, and the rain was coming down. My hope was that it didn’t rain too much, but this wasn’t going to be my first, or second twilight shot in the rain. I’ve pretty much accepted that if I’m doing a twilight shot, I’m getting wet… it seems to be part of the plan… haha…
Either way, I got lucky, and the shots came out really nice & crisp. I especially liked the twilight image from the back of the home, where you can see the roses in the corner of the image. The red & magenta of the roses coupled with the deep blue hues of the atmosphere make for a cool look. Here’s a bunch of the images from the session, and a big thanks to Kristen for reaching out to us! Enjoy!
